Notice from the Town of Smithfield – Trash & Recycling Bin Spacing Reminder

We have received a message from the Department of Public Works/Recycling Department regarding proper trash and recycling bin placement within our condominium community.

đźš› Important Requirement

Per the Town:

  • There must be at least 1 foot of space between each trash and recycling bin.
  • If bins are placed too close together, the collection trucks will not be able to empty them.

The automated arms on the trucks require adequate clearance to safely and properly lift each bin. When bins are touching or spaced too closely, pickup may be skipped.

âś… What Owners Need to Do

On our designated trash and recycling collection day:

  • Space all bins at least 12 inches apart
  • Ensure bins are not blocked by vehicles or other objects
  • Place bins in an accessible, visible location as usual
Why This Matters

Improper spacing can result in:

  • Missed trash or recycling pickup
  • Overflowing bins
  • Additional cleanup and inconvenience for residents

Your cooperation helps ensure smooth and timely waste collection for everyone in our community.

Parking Ban – Effective 7:00 PM Sunday through 7:00 PM Tuesday

To allow plow crews full access to the roads and properly manage the expected snowfall, a parking ban will be in effect during this period.

  • Residents of multi-plex units must park only in their assigned parking spaces.
  • Residents of duplexes must park in their driveways or garages.
  • No parking is permitted on roadways or in guest parking areas during the ban.

Any vehicle left on the road or in guest parking areas may be towed at the vehicle owner’s expense.

After the storm, please expect roads, driveways, and parking areas to be narrow with high snow banks limiting visibility.  Guest parking areas may not be fully plowed.  For everyone’s safety:

  • The speed limit on our roads is 15 mph.  Owners are responsible for their guests.  Do not exceed the posted speed limit.
  • All circles (Quail, Grouse, Overlook, and the end of Pheasant Run) are one-way traffic.  Traffic must travel counter-clockwise.
  • Be aware of where you and your guests have parked.  Any vehicle that is in any way blocking access to or from an owner’s driveway or assigned spot may be towed at the vehicle owner’s expense.

Thank you for your cooperation and for helping keep the community safe, accessible, and protected during this harsh winter.
